Eritrea prayer times
Daily and monthly prayer times for towns across Eritrea. The times are calculated with the Muslim World League method, and every row is labelled as calculated with the method named.
Scope of this claim
No institutional timetable is served for Eritrea. The times are calculated from each town’s coordinates with the Muslim World League method and have not been compared cell by cell with a local mosque calendar, so this page makes no 0-minute claim.
Calculation and source
- Method
- Muslim World League
- Fajr 18°, isha 17°; a calculation, not a published timetable.
- Asr
- Asr begins when an object’s shadow equals its length, the Shafi‘i practice of most Eritrean mosques. The Hanafi shadow-two Asr can be selected in the app; the other five times stay where they are.
- Precaution minutes
- None. The app adds no precaution minutes and personal minute adjustments start at zero.
- Time zone
- Eritrea does not observe daylight saving time, so the table never jumps by an hour. From the western lowlands to Assab on the Red Sea the country spans about six degrees of longitude, roughly twenty-four minutes of solar time on one clock.
- Hijri calendar and crescent
- The start of Ramadan and both Eids is announced by the country’s Islamic religious authorities after the crescent is sought. The Hijri dates on these pages and in the app are calculated and can differ from the announcement by a day.

Which method the times use
For Eritrea the app does not read a timetable published by an institution; it calculates the times from each town’s coordinates. The method is that of the Muslim World League: fajr begins when the sun is 18 degrees below the horizon and isha when it is 17 degrees below, while sunrise, dhuhr, asr and maghrib follow from the sun’s position over the town on that day. The times have not been compared cell by cell with a local mosque calendar, so this page does not say “0-minute difference”, and every row is labelled as calculated.
Highlands and coast
Asmara stands on the highland plateau at more than two thousand metres, while Massawa and Assab lie at sea level on the Red Sea. The calculation uses the open horizon, so in the highlands the sun can disappear behind a ridge a little before the maghrib shown, and on the coast the horizon is exactly as the calculation assumes. East to west the country spans about six degrees of longitude on one clock: Assab sees sunrise and sunset about a quarter of an hour before Asmara. Choose your own town, or the nearest listed town at a similar altitude and longitude.
The difference with the mosque calendar
Local calendars often add a few precaution minutes to some prayers and may use slightly different angles for fajr and isha. The app adds no margin of its own. If you see a steady difference of a few minutes against your mosque, the per-prayer minute adjustment in the app will close it without changing the method. Compare on the same day and for the same town.
Ramadan and reminders
Each town page shows today’s six times and a thirty-day table; during Ramadan the same data produces the Ramadan timetable, with fajr as suhoor and maghrib as iftar. In the app, every prayer can have an adhan sound or a silent alert and a reminder a few minutes early, and the widget keeps the next prayer on the home screen.
