Add prayer times widgets to your Home Screen

A widget shows the next prayer, a daily verse or your reading progress without opening the app. SalahNow offers 34 widgets on iOS and 29 on Android; the two platforms do not provide the same set or the same sizes. This guide covers how to add one, what information you can choose, and where to look when a widget seems out of date.

Add a widget to the Home Screen

On iPhone, press and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, enter edit mode and pick SalahNow from the widget gallery, then choose a size and add it. On Android, press and hold the Home Screen, open the widget list and drag one of the widgets listed under SalahNow. After adding it, tap or long-press the widget to open its editing options. Wording for these steps varies with your operating system version and the manufacturer interface.

SalahNow prayer time widgets: prayer countdown, dhikr counter and the daily ayah on the Home Screen

Lock Screen, Dynamic Island and Control Center

On iOS, Lock Screen widgets show information such as the next prayer or your reading at a glance. As a prayer approaches, a live countdown can appear on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island; these live views are specific to iOS. On iOS 18 and later a SalahNow button can be added to Control Center. Android does not provide Live Activities or a Dynamic Island; Android widgets run on the Home Screen.

Choose a size and its content

Widgets carry different information: the next prayer with a countdown, the six prayers of the day, a daily verse, the Names of Allah, Quran reading progress and a Ramadan view are among them. Small sizes show a single item, while larger sizes fit several rows at once. Which widget is offered in which size depends on the platform and installed version; the gallery preview makes the choice easier. You can add more than one widget and use each for a different purpose.

If a widget shows old information

Widgets do not run continuously; the operating system decides how often they may refresh. If you see an old time, open the app first and confirm that the location and daily view are current. Then check that SalahNow is not restricted by battery or background limits on your phone. Removing and re-adding the widget also resets its view. After changing a location or method in the app, a widget may take some time to reflect it.

Frequently asked questions.

How many widgets are there?

There are 34 widgets on iOS and 29 on Android. The counts are separate; Live Activities and the Dynamic Island are iOS only.

Do widgets need an account?

No. Widgets work without an account. An account is only needed for syncing between devices and for shared rooms.

Why does a widget show a past prayer time?

Refresh timing is decided by the operating system. Open the app to check the current view, review battery restrictions, and re-add the widget if needed.
