Preview athan recordings and choose one per prayer
SalahNow includes 16 athan recordings, and each one can be played inside the app before you choose it. Recordings are listed with the reciter and the maqam, and Fajr can use a separate recording. Instead of an audible athan you can pick a short notification tone or a silent reminder. This guide explains the selection screens and the settings that affect whether you hear a sound.
Preview before you choose
The sound list contains 16 athan recordings, each shown with the reciter name and maqam. Tap a recording to listen first, then select it. The preview is the same recording you will hear in the notification. The list also contains a short reminder tone and a silent option; these are not counted among the athan recordings. Recordings ship with the app, need no separate download, and are not exported outside the app.
Set a different sound per prayer
In notification settings you can choose a separate sound for each of the six prayers. Choosing a distinct recording for Fajr is common, and the app marks recordings that suit Fajr. You can use an audible athan for one prayer and only a notification tone for another. After changing a selection, also confirm that the reminder for that prayer is switched on; picking a sound does not enable the reminder by itself.
Notification tones, silent and volume
If you prefer no athan, you can use one of 8 notification tones or the silent option. With silent selected the notification still appears but plays no sound. The app uses a volume schedule that plays more quietly during the night. Your phone ringer and media volume also affect the level you hear, so it helps to try a recording at a low level in a quiet place first.
If no sound plays
Check first whether the selected sound for that prayer is an athan or the silent option. Then confirm that SalahNow has notification permission and that notification sound is enabled. Silent mode, focus modes, do not disturb and battery saving can suppress a notification. On Android the notification channel sound may also be turned off at the system level, so review system notification settings too.
