Follow prayer times for your selected location

SalahNow helps you view daily prayer times for your selected location and manage reminders. Checking your city and calculation preferences at the start makes the timetable easier to understand. This guide explains how to use location, method and reminder preferences inside the mobile app.

Start with your location

You can choose to allow location access or select a city manually. Check which location the app is using before comparing times. When travelling, make sure your previous city is not still selected. Also check your phone’s date and time zone. A difference between two timetables is easier to understand when you compare location, date and time zone together.

Understand methods and timetable sources

Calculation methods and local timetable sources can produce different times for the same place. Review the method and related prayer preferences in SalahNow. When comparing another timetable, use the same city, date and method wherever possible. Source or calculation information shown in the app can help explain a difference; you should not expect every timetable to match.

Check reminders in the app and on your phone

After setting your reminder preferences, check that your phone allows notifications from SalahNow. Silent mode, focus settings, battery management and operating system settings can affect whether a notification is visible or audible. Seeing a prayer time in the app does not mean an audible reminder is enabled for it. Work through these settings if a reminder is missing.

Review changes in the daily view

After changing location or method, review the daily times again. If you use home screen widgets, compare their information with the current app view. Widget options and availability depend on your device platform and installed app version. An initial setup does not remove the need to review your preferences after travelling or changing phone settings.

When each prayer time starts and ends (Sunni schools)

Each prayer time lasts until the next one begins; Asr ends at sunset. Depending on the school of law, the preferred time for each prayer can be shorter.

Forbidden (makruh) prayer times

In the Hanafi school, praying while the sun is rising, at its zenith or setting is makruh tahrimi (not permitted); other schools draw these limits differently.

Frequently asked questions.

Is Fajr time the same as the Fajr adhan?

In this table, Fajr time is when the time for the Fajr prayer begins, and the fast begins at the same moment. Many Ramadan timetables also print an earlier “imsak”, a few minutes before Fajr, as a precaution for ending suhoor; where the institution publishes it, the page shows it on its own row. Some mosques call the adhan a little after the time begins.

Why are the times different from another app?

Location, date, time zone, calculation method or local timetable source may differ. Compare those settings first; comparing the displayed times alone will not explain the cause.

Do I have to allow location access?

You can select your city manually. If you choose automatic location, manage its permission in your phone settings and check the selected location after travelling.
