Kosovo prayer times
Daily and monthly prayer times for towns across Kosovo. The times come from a calculation tuned to the annual calendar of the Islamic Community of Kosovo, and every row is labelled as calculated.
Scope of this claim
The app does not serve the Islamic Community of Kosovo’s calendar itself. It calculates the times and tunes the calculation to that calendar. Because the calendar cannot be reproduced exactly by any set of angles and offsets, this page makes no 0-minute claim.
Cities
Cities are listed by population. A city that is missing has no entry in the prayer-times database yet.
Calculation and source
- Institution
- Islamic Community of Kosovo
- Method
- Muslim World League, tuned to the Kosovo calendar
- Fajr 18°, isha 17°; maghrib +7 and isha +9 minutes, measured against the calendar.
- Asr
- Asr is shown at a shadow ratio of one, as the Kosovo calendar prints it. The Hanafi two-shadow Asr can be selected in the app; the other five times stay where they are.
- Precaution minutes
- The maghrib and isha margins are part of the calculation. Beyond them the app adds no precaution minutes, and personal minute adjustments start at zero.
- Time zone
- Kosovo moves its clocks forward at the end of March and back at the end of October. Every row is written in the local time in force on that day.
- Hijri calendar and crescent
- The start of Ramadan and both Eids is announced by the Islamic Community of Kosovo. The Hijri date in the app is calculated and can differ from the announcement by a day.
Publishes the annual prayer calendar used in mosques across Kosovo. The app tunes its calculation to this calendar but does not serve it.
Kosovo prayer times
A calculation tuned to the calendar
The Islamic Community of Kosovo publishes a printed prayer calendar every year, and most mosques call the adhan by it. The app does not read that calendar line by line. It calculates the times from each town’s coordinates with the Muslim World League method and then tunes the calculation against the calendar. The comparison showed that the calendar writes maghrib and isha a few minutes later than the calculation, consistently, so the app closes the gap with fixed margins: seven minutes on maghrib and nine on isha. That way maghrib and isha on screen never fall before the calendar. Even so, the page does not claim a 0-minute difference: the calendar rests on an older national table that no combination of angles and margins reproduces to the minute every day.
Imsak or sabah?
The Kosovo calendar has two morning columns. The “Imsaku” column is the start of the time: the fast begins and the fajr prayer becomes due. The “Sabahu” column shows a time about twenty minutes later, recommended for praying in congregation; it is not a boundary of the prayer time. The app’s first row corresponds to “Imsaku”. If you compare it with the sabah column, the app will look twenty minutes early — the right comparison is with imsak.
From Pristina to Prizren
Kosovo is small, but Peja in the west and Gjilan in the east are more than a degree of longitude apart, which moves sunrise and sunset by close to five minutes. The Kosovo calendar prints a single table for the country with a correction list for towns, while the app calculates each town from its own coordinates, so a difference of a minute or two can remain in some towns. Pick your own town for the closest result, and use the per-prayer minute adjustment if you want to match your mosque exactly.
Clock, Asr and Ramadan
Kosovo uses UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer, and every day in the table is written in the time in force on that day. Asr defaults to the shadow-one ratio because the Kosovo calendar prints it that way; the Hanafi shadow-two Asr can be selected in the app. During Ramadan the same data produces the Ramadan timetable, with fajr as suhoor and maghrib as iftar.
